Members of the Rotary Clubs of Brentwood Bay and Royal Oak Centennial
spent Saturday morning doing a shoreline cleanup along the Island View Beach. With a CRD
Parks staff member on hand to supply equipment and support, the Rotarians scoured the
shoreline for items washed up on the beach or left behind by visitors.
Countless pieces of plastic in various colours, shapes and sizes were collected, together with polystyrene, rope, some pop cans and even an old tire. When the work was done, and in true Rotary fashion, the group got together to share a picnic lunch. “Rotary is often best known for its work in other parts of the world. We wanted to make a contribution that benefits our local community and this was a great inter-club opportunity. ” said Elaine Gallagher , president of the Brentwood Bay Rotary Club.
Both clubs meet regularly at lunchtime and welcome new members. The Rotary Club of
Brentwood Bay meets on alternate Tuesdays at the Waddling Dog, and the Rotary Club of
Royal Oak Centennial meets Mondays at the Howard Johnson on Elk Lake Drive.
